About my work
Manifestations of The Earth.
I am an emerging artist residing in the UK, whose current exploration of work combines the embodiment of femininity, a deeper connection with nature and the need to surrender.
My guide to ceramics was initiated through an intense need to slow down. We currently live in a modern world moving at an overwhelming pace with overwhelming expectation.
Within my current work, I utilise a hand-built coiling technique to create my clay bodies. This is a slow and meditative process, forcing myself as the creator to surrender and slow down to the pace of the medium. A balance of control strikes, allowing the weight of the wet clay and other environmental conditions to guide my own process over the length of days and weeks of making and drying respectively. Each piece is an intuitive exploration through movement and touch of how I can work with, not against, the earth. By doing such I gently manipulate, fold, pull and stack the clay to guide the form as its creator, to form manifestations of the body with the earth.
My work is an invitation to reflect upon our own relationship with femininity and the human body. I have always been fascinated with the female form. Most recently this has exuded into an exploration of energy exchange, and that which females attribute.
Some may describe feminine energy with the energy of creation, trust of intuition, creative expression and an ability to ‘be’, which I embody within my forms.
I aim to evoke a further appreciation of the female body through its shapes, folds and nuances of human imperfection. Through both my ceramic work, and my paintings, I celebrate the occurrences of imperfection through ‘flaws’ of irregularity and dissymmetry displayed throughout the forms and sketches. There is beauty in ‘imperfection’, and power in acceptance. I feel this should be celebrated as a form of being human.
